Nach dem wunderschöne KAREN DALTON-Cover „Something On Your Mind” kündigt die in Los Angeles lebende Singer/Songwriterin SHANNON LAY mit „August“ ihr erstes Album für Sub Pop an. Aufgenommen wurde „August“ in L.A. zusammen mit TY SEGALL, den sie in diesem Jahr auch als Tourmitglied seiner Freedom Band unterstützen wird.
Der Titel bezieht sich auf den August im Jahr 2017, als LAY ihren Nebenjob hinschmiss, um sich fortan fulltime ganz der Musik hinzugeben. Diesen künstlerischen Befreiungsschlag zelebriert sie auf ihrem neuen Album und gibt diese Haltung auch an ihre ZuhörerInnen weiter ( „August“ is a tribute to my appreciation for music and all those who enjoy it“)
Die Arbeit an „August“ erneuerte LAYs Glaube an die Kraft von Musik: “I always picture music as this river. Everyone’s throwing things into this river, it’s a place you can go to and feed off of that energy. And feel nourished by the fact that so many people are feeling what you’re feeling. It’s this beautiful exchange.”
Für ihr Soloprojekt setzt die frisch gesignte Musikerin auf dem ehemaligen Grungelabel auf transzendentalen Folk-Pop mit Leuchtkraft. Nachhören kann man das jetzt auf „Nowhere“, mit dem uns LAY einen weiteren Vorgeschmack auf ihr neues Album gibt.
