I allowed myself a little joke at Dortmund Airport and wanted to play a patriotic GDR medley dressed as a police man. The songs are all from GDR times or Bands and it is important that we always remember back, because our freedom today is not self-evident.
In Germany there were two states between 1949 and 1990: The Federal Republic of Germany and the GDR. The GDR was a socialist state in which people could not live freely. There were no elections, power was held by one party alone. In 1989 there was a peaceful revolution in the GDR, the GDR collapsed. In 1990, the GDR and the Federal Republic of Germany united.
